Holy Nativity School

Our Mission
Holy Nativity School is dedicated to excellence in education within a small and personalized environment. Built upon the qualities of respect and inclusion as exemplified in the Episcopal tradition, Holy Nativity School values each child’s individuality as it develops principled citizens who recognize their role in a global community.

Holy Nativity School's Rainbow

Our Philosophy
Holy Nativity School began in 1949 as an outreach ministry of the Episcopal Church, specifically to provide quality education in a Christian environment for the new community of Aina Haina and families of East Oahu. We strive to provide a stimulating educational environment that challenges students to develop to their full potential. We believe that for children to reach this potential they must be nurtured in a Christian environment and given the tools necessary to succeed both academically and spiritually. We prepare students to be responsible, cooperative, contributing members of Hawaii's community. We foster students' self-esteem through building self-discipline and self-reliance as well as encouraging students to respect and appreciate individual and cultural differences. Holy Nativity School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, or disability in the administration of its educational and admission policies, financial aid, and other school-administered programs.

Our History
Were it not for the dedicated parishioners of the Church of the Holy Nativity, under the energetic guidance of Rev. John J. Morrett, there would be no Holy Nativity School.

Aina Haina was a growing post-World War II community of families that wanted a church and eventually a school to complete their new neighborhood. The church itself, and subsequently the school, actually began in one of the old buildings -- a stable of sorts -- of the Hind-Clarke Dairy on the site that is now Aina Haina Elementary School. Initially classes were offered for kindergarten and first grade. Grade levels were gradually added and the first sixth grade graduation was held in 1962.

A generous land donation from the children of Sen. and Mrs. Robert Hind, whose family started the dairy in 1924, became the site of the present-day church and school on the corner of Nenue Street and Kalanianaole Highway.

That original donation, a little more than an acre of prime real estate, combined with later land purchases, has grown into a two-acre property that houses a beautiful school chapel and classroom wings, the main church, the magnificent youth center, dedicated to John Morrett, and Glantz Hall.

Fund Development Vision
The Headmaster, the Board, Staff and the Development Director come together to create the financial resources to achieve Holy Nativity School’s strategic plans for the future while supporting the day to day needs of providing quality education of the highest academic caliber. We do this together, in the spirit of excellence, to develop tomorrow’s future leaders.
